Supporting Irish - Time for a reality check?

It is unlikely that anyone in Government could give an absolute figure on what we spend to try to get more than 3% of us to speak Irish.

It must be hundreds of millions if not something close to a billion.

The rejuvenation of our national language is one of the singular failures of this State since its foundation. It is of course a good thing that we support Irish but the vast majority of us do not feel strongly enough on the issue to even try to occasionally speak it.

Has the time come to consider our investment in the light of this daily reality rather than the wishful thinking mode that has animated the debate for decades?
