Online and in the shops: gluten gone

The Coeliac Society of Ireland, in association with SuperValu, will host Ireland’s first ever 100% Gluten Free Food Market at the Silver Springs Moran Hotel in Cork tomorrow (October 4), part of the association’s annual convention there.

The ‘Ballynogluten Food Market’ will offer families the chance to meet and chat with producers and taste a wide variety of gluten-free food samples in a fun and interactive atmosphere. Tickets are €40 per adult and €18 per child which includes a gluten-free lunch and can be booked online at www.coeliac.ie

PARENT EVENTS: The new mothercare.ie website offers product reviews and advice on pregnancy and parenting. A useful service is the new Mothercare Registry where parents can compile a list of essential items from which family and friends can choose a gift, for example the Innosense Starter Set, €79.99, which includes a steam steriliser and bottles. Mothercare has also compiled a handy collection of advice leaflets in their new Pregnancy Information Pack, which can be picked up in store. More advice is available at ‘Baby & Me’ events, held in Mothercare stores nationwide monthly. TREE HUGGERS The Tree Council of Ireland is asking parents to go outside with their children to celebrate all that nature has to offer on Tree Day 2014, Thursday, October 9. As part of this year’s campaign, themed ‘What can we learn about Trees?’, over 1,000 alder trees will be made available for primary schools, to help teach children about the importance of planting trees. Through this year’s campaign, children will learn about seven native trees — Hawthorn, Willow, Oak, Holly, Scots Pine, Yew and Alder more information for schools and families is available at www.treeday.ie
