A senior European vice detective will next week brief Irish campaigners on the successful implementation of new prostitution laws in Sweden.

It comes as members of the Turn Off the Red Light campaign, who are calling for new laws targeting those who buy sex, are poised to ramp up pressure on the Government to publish new legislation before the Dáil’s summer recess.

They have invited Det Sgt Jonas Henriksson of the national task force against prostitution and human trafficking, to explain how Sweden’s new sex buyer laws are working, and how the laws have reduced demand for sex-trafficking.
