Pfizer help secure future of Raffeen golf club in Shanbally
The five-year arrangement between Pfizer Ireland and Raffeen Creek Golf Club means the facility will now be run autonomously by the management and committee of the club, with the participation of the other historical stakeholder, Raffeen Creek Pitch and Putt Club.
Formally known as the Pfizer Sports Club, the 84-acre facility has long been a central part of community activities in the area.
Just 10 minutes from Cork city centre, the Raffeen Creek Golf Club offers the area a large sports complex. It includes a nine-hole golf course, a championship, 18-hole pitch-and-putt course, two full-size grass soccer pitches, and a multi-purpose clubhouse with an indoor sports hall and lounge with full bar licence.
The pitch-and-putt and golf clubs are both open for green fees and membership. The venue is also available for private hire, for family and corporate events.
Chairman of the Raffeen Creek Golf club, Jim Farrelly, said the deal would allow the facility to grow and develop new membership.
“This is great news for the golf club, its members, and the future of the facility. We are extremely grateful to Pfizer for their support, in enabling us to consolidate the independent structure that will give us many exciting opportunities to develop and grow membership, and all the other ancillary activities of the property, from pitch and putt, soccer and the clubhouse facilities,” he said.
