Jedward to surprise terminally ill twins
Jedward, their favourite pop stars, will join them for a parade through their home town, Roscommon.
The twins’ older brother, eight-year-old Archie who also has the terminal illness, will also join a special Orange Day festival for the birthday.
Orange is the twins’ favourite colour and it has been adopted by a new trust set up to create awareness of the children’s disease, Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy.
It is a neuro-muscular disease which is fatal in all cases. The illness destroys muscle tissue and leaves those with it fighting for their lives by their late teens or early 20s.
The three boys are the only children of Paula, 46, and Padraic, 45, Naughton. Their lives were shattered when all the boys were diagnosed with the same illness on the same day in 2012.
Now they are desperately trying to make the world aware of the disease and today’s special birthday will feature a concert in Roscommon which also includes Paddy Casey, Mary Byrne, and Crystal Swing.
“We were so devastated when the boys were diagnosed. Both Padraic and myself are nurses but we never heard of the disease before. Then we finally got our act together six weeks ago and established a trust to create awareness and work in collaboration with charities funding research into the condition,” said Paula
