Charges expected in fatal stabbing

Gardaí are confident of bringing charges in relation to the fatal stabbing of a machete-wielding youth in a row that spiralled out of control in west Dublin early yesterday morning.

Colm Hughes, also known as Colm Lyons, died after being repeatedly stabbed just yards from his home on Fortlawn Avenue, Blanchardstown, at around 1.30am.

Garda sources said that Hughes, aged 20, was brandishing a machete and threatening a couple on the road when the other male, also 20, went into his girlfriend’s house, armed himself with a kitchen knife, came back out and stabbed Hughes in the stomach.
