Expanding Amazon hails Irish ‘top talent’

Amazon has announced it is creating more than 100 positions at a development centre in Dublin.

The roles include support engineers, systems engineers, network engineers, software developers, and technical managers.

“Dublin has proven to be an excellent location for finding the top talent we need to support our continued growth and we are delighted to be expanding here,” said Paul Conlon, the managing director of the Amazon development centre.

“Our focus now is on hiring the right people as quickly as we can as we aim to fill the majority of these roles before the start of the busy Christmas period.”

IDA chief executive Barry O’Leary said Amazon’s decision to expand the technology centre showed Ireland’s ability to attract high-calibre foreign direct investment.

“It represents a key endorsement by one of the world’s leading companies and further adds to Ireland’s reputation as the online capital of Europe and a key strategic hub for next-generation data services.”

The development centre opened in 2005 and moved to its current offices in Kilmainham two years ago.

The centre is home to a team of engineers and developers who support the design and deployment of Amazon websites.

The centre also hosts an Amazon web services developer support team which provides technical assistance for customers.

Those interested in applying for the jobs can do so at www.amazon.co.uk/careers.

Also in Dublin, shopping website www.buyersclub.ie is to create 40 positions over the next 12 to 18 months.

The company, based in Blanchardstown and which is owned by PDQ Distribution, says it “combines purchasing power and product ideas from our members to deliver a significant reduction in their shopping bill while also promoting the idea of increasing spend in the local community”.
