Don’t live out your parents’ dreams, O’Gara warns
The Munster and Ireland star fears that star-struck teenagers may never recover from pinning all their hopes and dreams of lining out in Croke Park or the Aviva Stadium.
He told yesterday’s Irish Examiner Rog and Ruby Breakfast: “Good parenting is crucial. And there has to be a plan B. If you put your eggs in one basket, the level of disappointment can be absolutely crushing to your personality, to everything.
“The more sports you can play as a young boy or girl, the better. If it finds you, it finds you. But if you’re going to be downing protein shakes from the age of 12, I fear you’re looking for a huge disappointment.
“You need serious guidance and skilled parenting because sometimes it’s the parents who are living the dream. That needs to be looked at big time.”
On a lighter note, the Irish Examiner columnist confirmed all is well in the O’Gara household after his gaffe on The Late Late Show.
O’Gara had previously issued an apology via Twitter for a risqué joke about his wife in a recent chat with Ryan Tubridy, but he confirmed Jessica O’Gara hadn’t even seen the show.
Back home in Paris. I have apologised to @jessieog and i'm also sorry if i offended anyone else with my very poor joke on @RTELateLateShow.

“It was grand. Jessica was asleep at home, she was in [son] JJ’s bed,” replied O’Gara.
“It was a silly comment. But I had two coffees. People thought I was on the sauce, but I was having the craic.
“It was silly but Jessica and I are together 19 years. She knows me well and has heard worse from me. She didn’t have an issue with it.”
@AlanQuinlan1 @RonanOGara10 Go away Quinny! You know I'm not that bad! #banter Enjoy the bromance!!
