UCC conference to explore our digital identities and role of technology

Our digital identities and the increasing role technology plays in everyday life will be among the themes discussed at a two day conference at UCC this week.

UCC conference to explore our digital identities and role of technology

Digitalis 2.0 takes places on Thursday and Friday, April 7-8, brings together MA Digital Cultures, MA Digital Humanities and PHD students as part of an initiative to foster collaboration across a range of disciplines.

The annual conference provides a perfect platform for students from across the humanities to meet, present and discuss their research projects and invite feedback ahead of finalising their dissertations later this summer.

This year's students come from a variety of backgrounds across academia and professions including the arts, media, history, social studies and archaeology.

A number of guest speakers from across the digital divide will also address the conference across the two days. These include Deirdre Ni Luasigh, who will address the importance of digital archiving and preservation at 12.15pm on Thursday. She will be followed at 2pm by aspiring cinematographer Susan Gorzalczynska, who will give a talk at 2pm.

On Friday, Harper Pollock will give a talk on 'liberatory technology', which can be both the tool of revolution and of evolution at 12.15. At 2pm on Friday, Andrew Prescott, Professor of Digital Humanities at University of Glasgow will give a talk on digital transformations in the arts and humanities.

The event also coincides with Day of DH 2016, which brings individuals and communities together online to examine the role of "digital humanists". It also provides a global platform for people to share their thoughts and ideas.

Digitalis 2.0 is open to anyone with an interest in the humanities or technology, and all relevant fields of research or simply to those looking to explore the impact of digital on how we live, work, learn, rest and play.

Digitalis 2.0 takes place Thursday and Friday, April 7-8, at the Active Learning Space, Food and Technology Building, UCC from 10am-3pm. For further information check HERE.
