Wondering why this garda can’t bear to look?

While watching gardaí deal with a flooding incident, Robert Grace of the Athlone Advertiser captured a garda’s hilarious reaction to a driver’s foolish attempt to drive through flood water.

Grace told breakingnews.ie that he headed to the Ballymahon Road in Athlone on Tuesday after hearing a car had become stuck in a flood.

When he got there, however, gardaí at the scene had already pulled the car and the driver to safety. It was then he witnessed a second car attempt to cross the impassable flood.

"The gardaí were dealing with the woman they just saved," said Robert.

"She was getting dry when another car came around the bend. To be fair to the garda, she tried everything to stop the (second) car.

"She was jumping up and down, waving her arms - but the driver didn’t take any notice and tried to drive through the flood anyway. I just whipped out my camera and caught it all at the perfect moment."

You can just see the anguish on the poor garda’s face as her efforts came to nought.

According to Robert, the car got about half way in before the driver realised he/she was, quite literally out of their depth. The driver then managed to reverse out of the flood the way the car came in before doing any major damage to it.

Be very careful when driving through water folks!
