Video: It’s not just cyclists who jump red lights on streets of Dublin

Irish motorists like to bash cyclists (not literally) about being a menace on the roads, not obeying traffic laws etc. But this video is a stark realisation that motorists are far from innocent.

Video: It’s not just cyclists who jump red lights on streets of Dublin

One of the favoured arguments of car drivers is that the two wheeled folk don't stop for red lights, even though the law states that they must.

And it is true, there are many incidents that involved cyclists skipping the lights and being hit by an oncoming car or by a crossing pedestrian.

However, a video from the end of last year shows, motorists are not as innocent as they claim to be.

The camera was set up at Doyle’s Corner, North Circular Road, Dublin 7.

When someone set up a camera to record traffic behaviour at a pedestrian crossing the amount of cars which ran a red light was much higher than the number of cyclists.

We want to stress again, there was a huge amount of cars ran a RED LIGHT at a PEDESTRIAN crossing!

We find it hard to believe that these motorists were completely oblivious to the red light against them and the green man which favoured the pedestrians.

Perhaps the most shocking culprit was the Bus Eireann coach which tore through the light, when it was clearly red, with a large number of passengers on board.

We expected better from someone whose job it is to drive people from one place to another safely.

And yes, we have already acknowledged that there are a number of cyclists who have also broken the law in the video, but let's be fair, the bigger danger to the pedestrians crossing the road are the cars who refused to slow down.
