A voice coach has revealed that a large number of his clients are single men and American tourists.
Jim Johnson runs an online service which enables customers to master their chosen dialent. Of the 40 accent he teaches, four of them are Irish.
Johnson, who is an associate professor of voice and dialects at the University of Houston, Texas as well as a trained actor, says that while his fellow actors look to build a ranch of accents for various roles, many men are using his services to woo women and understand Irish women when they visit the country.
"Most of my clients are actors, who are looking to perfect an accent for a part," he told the .
"But the materials on Irish accents have also been used by men who want to increase their chances with the girls and also by tourists who are about to take a vacation in Ireland and want to be able to understand the locals."
Johnson teaches four dialects: Dublin, northern, southern and westen. He improved his own skills by visiting Dublin, Derry, Cork and Galway six years ago and recording conversations between local Irish people in each place.
The most requested accent from clients is the Dublin accent, followed by the Northern Irish, western Irish and southern Irish brogues.
Johnson says his most popular dialects are the ones his clients find most difficult, with the easiest ones being the sing-song Cork or Kerry accents.
