Renée Zellweger is trying to make the Ice Bucket Challenge a thing again

We called it the "ice bucket challenge", and it was the social media sensation of 2014, a year ago this month.
Well, Renée Zellweger is ready to bring it back with her own video on it - and she’s challenged some big-name celebrities to help bring it back.
Yes, Renée - whose friend, Nanci Ryder, is suffering from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, the ALS in "ALS ice bucket challenge" has helped to start the ball rolling again by drenching herself in Los Angeles (and saving the water, too - they have a drought out there).
The Bridget Jones star was "challenged" by a member of the ALS Association, and has named Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything) and Colin Firth (Kingsman) to follow her lead.
The social media sensation raised a reported €350,000 for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association by the end of August last year.
The ALS Association has launched a drive to make the ice bucket challenge an annual event, until a cure is developed for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.
With the weather we’ve had this summer, we’re not sure if we can see Irish people partaking with as much enthusiasm as they did last year - but it’s still for a good cause.
Not, of course, that we mean to pour cold water on the idea. We’ll just have to wait and see.
