Our musical tribute to the late James Horner

The man behind some of Hollywoods greatest movie scores died after the two seater plane he was travelling in crashed this morning in Southern California.

His career was an extraordinary one - with over 150 complete compositions for film and TV shows spanning three decades - but alas, cut short in the early hours of this morning.

While it is impossible to break down his many amazing pieces into a simple top 10 piece, we are going to try and bring you some of the most memorable scores, composed by Horner.

Titanic

An American Tail

Avatar

Field of Dreams

Alien

Apollo 13

The Amazing Spiderman

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

Braveheart

"I was impressed when I saw that score," said Mel Gibson about james Horner's composition for his 1995 Oscar winning movie Braveheart.

"I gotta say, about 95% of that score was just spot on from the minute it hit the picture.

"And it's not the same with every score, you have to sort of fiddle with it but that's one of the great scores I think. It sort of rivals Lawrence of Arabia, it's one of the great scores."

You may not be able to listen to these now but, here are some of his best works in a handy spotify playlist for you to enjoy.
