Meet Bretagne. On this day 14 years ago she was one of the first search and rescue dogs to arrive at Ground Zero to search for survivors.

Today, she is the last known living rescue dog from that day.

In 2011, she and her handler, Denise Corliss, were in Texas Task Force 1, and Bretagne had an intense first deployment.

The pair joined nearly 100 other search and rescue dogs to find and save people trapped in the rubble of the World Trade Center after 9/11.

Earlier this week, she celebrated her 16th birthday, and the day was marked in style.

To thank her for her incredible service, BarkBox teamed up with the dog-lovers at 1 Hotels to bring the New York City hero and Denise back to the city for the ultimate Dog’s Best Day.
