Validation expertise demand helps double jobs at GxP Systems
Cork-based GxP’s staffing levels will reach 60 by January, up from 29 in June. The project management services company anticipates further expansion in the last two quarters of 2012, having begun work with a leading pharma and medical devices group with more than 20 centres across the USA.
GxP will provide validation and engineering support to help this US corporation gain FDA approval for a suite of cutting edge products. The fact that an Irish company is providing regulatory and compliance solutions to a large US entity in its home space is a very welcome evolution.
GxP Systems general manager and former Cork camogie caption Linda Mellerick explains: “We are hoping that a lot of our growth over the next year will be in Ireland, but we are also managing projects in the USA and Holland. We have worked for a number of well-known multinational clients here in Ireland, and it is great that our reputation has reached overseas.
“In the case of that US client we are supporting their bid to gain FDA approval. There is a very exacting regulatory and compliance environment in the States, and we are getting this work because of the excellence of our team of engineers.
“Typically, we project manage in pharma, medical devices and biotech, but we have also worked on projects in oil and gas. Around 90% of our staff are engineers, with the rest in admin roles. When we expand in 2012, the new roles will also all be engineers.
“We had a few tough years in 2009 and 2010. Even early 2011 was tough, but we controlled our costs and kept plugging away. We really have a fantastic team of engineers.”
A CPA qualified chartered accountant, Mellerick, whose intercounty camogie career spanned 21 years, was named on the Camogie Association’s Team of the Century in 2004 where she was cited for her “wonderful spirit and leadership qualities”.
She won one minor, one junior and six senior All Ireland titles, ten National Leagues and four Gael Linn titles, and she captained Cork to All Ireland success in 1993 and 1997. She retired in 2002, and now writes a sports column for the Evening Echo in Cork and is a frequent guest on RTÉ radio.
Having joined GxP Systems as financial controller in 2010, Mellerick quickly rose to director of operations. She has now been elevated to general manager to lead the company’s expansion globally and in Ireland.
As general manager she will have overall responsibility for managing GxP Systems, from overseeing day-to-day operations to defining the company’s strategic direction. She has a proven track record of strong operational leadership.
GxP Systems chairman John Moore said: “By providing the strong leadership she honed as a camogie captain, Linda is ideally suited to optimise planning, drive growth, increase resource utilisation, implement efficient processes and improve communications.
“With our rapid growth and expansion into the EU and US, GxP Systems is well positioned for continued growth. I am very pleased that we can leverage Linda’s focus and team leadership skills to take the company to the next level.”
Prior to joining GxP Systems, Mellerick held senior level financial and operational positions, where she significantly and consistently improved company performance. She is a qualified CPA. Since 1997, GxP Systems has provided world-class engineering consulting and project management services to regulated industries. The company provides multinational customers with project management, engineering and complete solutions.
