Police in southern Germany say there are “multiple dead” after an attack and a suspect is being sought.

Two dead in German shooting

At least two people have died in a shooting in Germany, police said.

Officers confirmed a man and woman were killed in the incident in Bavaria, and a suspect fled by car. Police said the suspect, reported to be a lone gunman, was arrested soon after.

Police spokesman Bert Rauenbusch told N24 news that a man and a woman had been killed in the morning attack.

He said a man shot at people from his car and that at least one other person was wounded.

The killings took place in the southern town of Tiefenthal, near Ansbach.

Local police issued a statement in German about the incident, which took place at about 11.30am this morning local time (10.30 Irish time).

The statement said shots were fired in Tiefenthal, Leuterhausen, from a silver Mercedes convertible at a woman who died at the scene, and a short time later a cyclist in Rammersdorf was also killed.

Police said a farmer and another motorist were both either shot at or threatened with a firearm, but were uninjured.

Leuterhausen lies approximately 45km south-east of Nuremberg, and 12km west of the Bavarian city of Ansbach.
