Police in Guyana have detained a 14-year-old girl for allegedly lacing a family meal with pesticide after her parents forbade her from dating a 19-year-old neighbour.
Police Commander David Ramnarine said that the girl is suspected of poisoning a meal of curried fish and rice, leading to her parents and three siblings needing hospital treatment.
The girl’s 48-year-old father and 17-year-old brother are in critical condition, while her mother and two sisters are listed in stable condition.
