North Korean police chief's daughter defects to South

Reports have emerged that the daughter of a senior North Korean official has defected to South Korea.

The 19-year-old, whose father is responsible for police operations in North Korea's capital Pyongyang, left earlier this year.

It is thought that the teenager had been attending university in Beijing, but has now moved to South Korea via a third country.

It is particularly rare for members of elite families to try to escape North Korea, where the families of defectors can face jail for helping their relatives leave the country.
