Irish person aboard adrift cruise ship

It's reported that one Irish person is on board the Costa Allegra cruise ship, which is adrift without power in the Indian Ocean.

According to the Press Association the passengers on board the vessel are mainly Italian, French, Austrian and Swiss.

It's reported that there are also 31 Britons and one Irish citizen on the cruise liner.

However, the Department of Foreign Affairs says it's received no confirmation of any Irish person on the vessel.

The Costa Allegra lost power after a fire in its engine room.

A French fishing vessel has reached the scene, but tug boats and rescuers are not expected to arrive until the morning.
