A man has told how he was forced to burn old furniture to keep his family warm after they became trapped by snow at an isolated farmhouse.

Ben Massam told BBC Wales the family of four were stranded without power at a farm in Bryneglwys, near Wrexham.

ā€œYou can walk over the washing line there’s that much snow,ā€ he said.

ā€œYou can’t see any of the cars, the cars are all buried, and I mean literally buried – they’re gone.

ā€œIt got to the point where I just thought we needed to try to get the baby out to reasonable safety.ā€

Mr Massam and his family, including his 16-month-old son, were airlifted to safety yesterday by a helicopter from RAF Valley on Anglesey and flown to hospital where treatment was not required.
