A 23-year-old British tourist's foot has been amputated after a New York City taxi driver mounted the pavement and hit her.

Sian Green suffered a serious leg injury after she was hit near the Rockerfeller Centre in Manhattan, yesterday morning.

Celebrity Doctor Mehmet Oz has an office nearby and rushed to the scene.

He has praised a plumber's quick thinking.

"There was a dog leash and a belt amazingly two mundane things you wouldn't think of but they saved her life," he said.
