Offaly midfielder Connor heads Stateside

Brian Connor, one of Offaly's best players during their recent Allianz Football League campaign, has decided to head to Chicago for the summer.

The talented 22-year-old midfielder will not be part of interim boss Tom Coffey's plans for the upcoming Championship after leaving for America on Tuesday.

Connor, who is out of work after finishing college last year, will play football for Chicago side Wolfe Tones in the coming months, with the club setting him up with accommodation and a job.

In his final outing for Offaly earlier this month, the Walsh Island clubman scored four points from play as the Faithfuls fell to a 0-11 to 0-8 defeat to Tipperary.

With Connor absent and star forward Niall McNamee also still getting over a troublesome groin problem, Coffey's men face into a daunting Leinster SFC opener against Kildare on June 17.

The match will come too soon for McNamee as he has only just started an eight-week rehab programme in a bid to regain full fitness for the Championship.
