Meath hurlers agree to play in Christy Ring Cup replay, just not this weekend

The Meath hurlers have agreed to take part in a replay of the Christy Ring Cup final, writes Stephen Barry.

Meath were presented with the cup on Saturday but referee John O’Brien has acknowledged that he got the score wrong.

However, Meath’s agreement to fulfil the replay is conditional on it not taking place in three days’ time, as arranged by the GAA.

Instead they will request that the game is moved back a week in the interests of “players welfare and appropriate preparation”.

This weekend’s Meath Hurling Championship games have also been postponed.

A potential issue with the request to play the game on June 18 is that Antrim’s Ulster Hurling Championship semi-final against Derry is scheduled as part of a double-bill for the following day.
