Hook eats humble pie after epic Ireland win

RTÉ pundit George Hook was forced to eat a lot of humble pie last night after Ireland’s epic victory over South Africa in the Aviva.
The notoriously grumpy Corkman was scathing about the Ireland team before the match, giving Joe Schmidt’s men absolutely no chance of a win against the in-form Springboks.
As the game progressed and it became clear Ireland would win, many viewers relished the prospect of Hook being forced into a very public climbdown - so much so his name was trending on Twitter.

Tom McGurk turned to him straight after the match and he didn’t disappoint.
“It’s an extraordinary privilege to be on television and to be able to give your opinions on a game you love and it’s also extraordinary when you get it so wrong,” he started.
“I have got it absolutely wrong. I have totally underestimated the extraordinary ability demonstrated by Joe Schmidt and the players under his control. I didn't think it was possible.”
Fair play George, upfront with the apology. He even said he was glad to wrong.
"I’m very happy to be wrong because you’re always happy to be wrong on these occasions.”
