Manchester City hope to have captain Vincent Kompany available for tomorrow’s Carling Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool after appealing against his impending suspension.

Manchester City hope to have captain Vincent Kompany available for tomorrow’s Carling Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool after appealing against his impending suspension.

The Belgium defender is due to serve a four-match ban for his sending off against Manchester United on Sunday and City will learn the outcome of their appeal later today.

City are stretched with defender Kolo Toure and midfielder Yaya Toure on international duty, while there are injury concerns over playmaker David Silva (ankle) and strikers Edin Dzeko (knee) and Mario Balotelli (ankle). Midfielder Gareth Barry returns from suspension.
