Zafeen is to be given a mid-season break before taking in a Group One contest over a mile with the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood high on his trainer Mick Channon’s priority list.

The colt gave Channon his biggest career success when landing the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot last week but that was his fourth outing of the year.

Channon said: “He’s been asked to go for everything up to now and deserves a rest.

“I shall consider the Prix Jacques le Marois and definitely the Sussex Stakes but I think we need to bear in mind how important it is not to run him on soft ground again.”

It was in easy conditions that Zafeen flopped in the Irish 2000 Guineas but he had his favourite lightening fast ground when landing last week’s Group One three-year-old race under Darryll Holland.
