Woman stabbed in Co Louth


A woman was being questioned by gardaí today after a 60-year-old woman was stabbed outside a church.

The victim was left fighting for her life after the apparently unprovoked attack outside St Peter’s Church in Drogheda at around 10.20pm yesterday.

A 36-year-old woman was arrested at the scene on West Street and taken to Drogheda Garda station.

She can be held for up to 24 hours under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Doctors at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital are treating the victim for a number of stab injuries and her condition remains critical.

Detectives in Drogheda have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
