VIDEO: Australian political advisor launches anti-Irish rant

Worldwide reaction to Ireland's recent Yes vote in the Marriage Equality Referendum has been broadly positive.

However, Australia have been debating whether to follow suit with a referendum of their own after opposition parties there called for a vote on gay marriage.

Yesterday, an advisor to the ruling Australian Liberal Party, Grahame Morris, reacted to the move with an anti-Irish rant on Sky News Australia.

Mr Morris said a possible vote on the issue there is one of the "most insensitive cons" he has seen in Australian politics before adding: "And the trigger was a vote in Ireland."

You can listen to his tirade on the clip below at around seven minutes and 50 seconds.

He said: "I love the Irish and half the parliament's full of Irishmen, but these are people who can't grow potatoes.

"They've got a mutant lawn weed as their national symbol and they can't verbalise the difference between a 'tree' and the number 'three'."

Mr Morris has been involved with the Liberal and National Parties in Australia for 30 years, and has served as Chief of Staff to former Prime Minister, John Howard.
