The Transport Minister has said that he is worried that if we legislate for the X case here - it may open the floodgates to abortions being available on demand.

Leo Varadkar's comments come after an opinion poll in today's Sunday Business Post found that 85% of people want legislation for the X case, including in cases where the woman is feeling suicidal.

But Minister Varadkar said that if legislation were brought in - it would need to be tightly framed - and include time limits as to how far gone a pregnant woman would have to be before an abortion would be allowed - in the case of suicide.

He also expressed concerns that legislating for the X case - could lead to abortions on demand:
