Unemployment figures expected to show bottoming out

Figures to be published this morning are expected to show a bottoming out in the numbers of people on the live register.
The figures - from the Central Statistics Office - will indicate no increase in the numbers signing on for the month of October.
At the end of September there were almost 424,000 people on the live register.
The Government has now revised downward its prediction for end of year unemployment, which had been expected to reach the half-million mark.
Meanwhile the State training and employment agency FÁS says that the number of vacancies reported to it was up by 20% in the last quarter due to greater outward migration and to young people entering education instead of the workforce.
Brian McCormick of FÁS is however warning that the employment outlook for 2010 remains poor.
