Sheehan resigns as FG Deputy Spokesperson on Agriculture

PJ Sheehan has resigned this evening as Fine Gael's Deputy Spokesperson on Agriculture with Special Responsibility for Forestry.

The Cork South West TD apologised yesterday to a female garda who he had allegedly made threats to outside Leinster House on July 8 last.

It has been claimed the Garda tried to prevent him from using his car while he was in an intoxicated state.

It is also alleged that he told her that her actions would damage her future career.

In a statement this evening, he confirmed that he had tendered his resignation with immediate effect.

He has also told leader Enda Kenny he does not want to be considered for any other position.
