Separated couples both liable for property tax

Separated couples who own a house together are both liable for the property tax - but Revenue says they will collect the tax from whoever is living in the house.

Revenue said that with just two weeks to go until the online registration deadline - A total of 845,000 people have now filed for the tax.

Local Property Tax Projects Manager with the Revenue Commissioners is Vivienne Dempsey:

"Where both individuals are still owners of the property then that is a statement of law and a statement of fact therefore they are both liable," said local property tax projects manager with the Revenue Commissioners Vivienne Dempsey.

"But we will start with the person who is living in the property."
