Restaurant workers call for JLC wage agreements to be maintained

Workers are calling on the Restaurant Association of Ireland to stop its moves to abolish the Catering Employment Regulation Order - also known as a JLC - which sets wages for the industry.

Workers are calling on the Restaurant Association of Ireland to stop its moves to abolish the Catering Employment Regulation Order - also known as a JLC - which sets wages for the industry.

Owners say they can no longer afford to pay the wage rates set out under the JLC.

But workers - who will protest outside an industry awards ceremony later - say the order protects the most vulnerble members of staff.

Helen Lowry of the Migrant Rights Centre says claims that abolishing JLCs will create jobs have been refuted by a leaked Government review.
