Rape victim speaks out against school

The rape victim of a Donegal school caretaker who was yesterday jailed says the pain of what he went through will never go away.

Derek Mulligan has chosen to waive his anonymity in an effort to urge other abuse sufferers to speak out.

Michael Ferry (aged 55) of Gweedore was sentenced to 14 years in jail yesterday for raping and molesting four boys.

He was later allowed return to his work at a Donegal summer school despite being convicted in 2002 of indecently assaulting a pupil in the 1980s.

The school is set to issue a statement at a later time, but Derek Mulligan has questioned why it has taken this long.

"He (Ferry) was still there until last year," said Mr Mulligan. "They've had a year to issue the statement, they've known he's been in jail, so why is it not issued now?"

"They knew what he was capable of and what he was able to do."
