Pope officially invited to visit Ireland

The Pope has been officially invited to visit Ireland in two years' time.

The Bishops' Conference has issued the invitation to coincide with the international Eucharistic Congress which will be held in Dublin in 2012.

Following the publication of the Murphy and Ryan reports into clerical abuse of children, campaigners have demanded an apology from Benedict XVI.
