Outrage after Judge compares social welfare to charity for polish

The Chairperson of the Irish Polish Society has said that she is outraged at comments made by a District Court Judge about Polish people.

Judge Mary Devins this evening apologised for comments she made at Castlebar District Court last week, when she compared the social welfare system to a charity for Polish people.

In a statement, Judge Devins said she wished to clarify the comment -claiming it was intended to be specific to one incident and was never intended to offend the Polish community.

However, Chairperson of the Irish Polish Society, Anna Szewc, said that comments like these, do nothing to help people from other countries integrate with the Irish.
