NI boy undergoes pioneering windpipe operation

Doctors say an 11-year-old boy from the North has undergone pioneering surgery to successfully rebuild his windpipe using his own stem cells.

Ciaran Finn-Lynch is the first child in the world to undergo the trachea transplant in March.

He was born with a rare condition that meant his windpipe restricted his breathing.

Ciaran's mother, Colleen, said it has been a huge ordeal, but the surgery seems to have paid off.
