Irons' peach castle annoys neighbours in Co Cork

A row has broken out in Co Cork after actor Jeremy Irons painted his castle peach.

Mr Irons plastered 15th-century Kilcoe Castle near Skibbereen about six months ago and also covered it in a limestone wash.

The colour has reportedly annoyed locals who thought Mr Irons would restore the ruined castle to its original state. He will live in it when it's finished.

A spokeswoman for Mr Irons said he had no intention of changing the colour and was "thrilled" with it.

According to reports, Mr Irons' spokeswoman said he liked the colour but added it would stay even though some locals didn't.

The actor has spent three years restoring the castle which sleeps 12 and everything inside has been designed by him and then made by hand, reports The Times.

Mary Mackey, editor of the Mizen Historical Journal, said members of the local historical society were aghast. "It is quite alarming and when I first saw it I was horrified. It was not what we had been expecting and when we discussed the castle with Mr Irons he made no mention of painting it," she said.
