Ireland's climate likely to get warmer according to EPA

Ireland's climate is likely to get warmer by the middle of this century.

The finding is contained in new research published by the EPA.

The regional climate modelling projections for Ireland include a temperature increase of between 1 and 1.7 degrees by 2050.

Hot days are predicted to be between 0.7 and 2.6 degrees warmer and there is expected to be a decrease in rainfall during the spring and summer.

But rainfall events are likely to increase during autumn and winter.

There are likely to be less storms, but their intensity is projected to increase.

The report was carried out under the EPA research programme at the Irish Centre for High End Computing and University College Dublin, in conjunction with Met Eireann.
