Hogan: Anglo tapes made my blood boil; Reilly slams FF/Anglo axis

The Environment Minister Phil Hogan has accused former senior executives in Anglo Irish Bank of being "cavalier and arrogant".

It comes after the Health Minister James Reilly launched a scathing attack on what he called the Fianna Fáil - Anglo Irish bank axis.

Mr Hogan said the revelations on the recordings, obtained by the Irish Independent, are "outrageous and distressing".

In a second series of tapes released today, the then Anglo Chief Executive David Drumm talks about abusing the 2008 bank guarantee.

Minister Hogan is the latest member of the Government to say he was unaware of the existence of the recordings.

He said the contents "make his blood boil".

In the Dáil, the Health Minister attacked Fianna Fáil for their relationship with Anglo Irish Bank.

Mr Reilly has told the Dáil that relationship was to blame for people being unable to pay their health insurance.

He also insisted Fianna Fáil was guilty of criminal negligence or incompetence.

He said: "We all know why we find ourselves in the position we are in, it is because of the Fianna Fáil Anglo Irish axis. People can't afford their insurance because they don’t have a job, Deputy Kelleher, because of you and your government and your engagement with Anglo Irish Bank.

"Hoodwinked by them. So either criminal negligence or utter imcompetence was the cause of the problem that we find ourselves in."
