Gardaí have stepped up their search for a couple that went missing in Meath 48 days ago.

William 'Willie' Maughan and his girlfriend Ana Varslavane have not been seen since they disappeared from Gormanston on Tuesday, April 14.

Anastasija Varslavane and Willie Maughan.

Maughan’s girlfriend made a desperate plea for help in a phone call to his mother before the pair disappeared.

Their case was re-enacted on last Monday’s Crimecall, where their last known movements were shown.

During the programme, Maughan’s mother said that she believed the pair had been murdered because her son "knew too much" about a gangland murder last year.

Gardaí suspect that the couple may have been abducted by a Traveller gang because they had planned to leave the Gormanstown area.
