Gardaí probe human remains find near Kells

Gardaí are investigating after human remains were found in a bog close to the town of Kells, Co Meath.

Gardaí have said they are looking at all circumstances surrounding the discovery, which took place during excavation work at Oristown Bog near Kells on Thursday.

The remains were removed yesterday to the mortuary at Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan and a post-mortem examination was carried out by the State Pathologist.

They have also confirmed the remains are that of a male and are now waiting for the results of DNA analysis to continue the process of identifying the deceased.

A burnt out shell of a car was also found at the scene. It is understood the car was reported stolen in the Kells area in 2003.

A technical and forensic examination at the scene has concluded.
