Gardaí arrest man after shooting in Westmeath

A number of shots were fired during an incident in County Westmeath last night.

A number of shots were fired during an incident in County Westmeath last night.

Gardaí attended a scene at Cullion, outside Mulligar, at around 7pm last night following reports that a man in the area was seen with a gun.

Gardaí sealed off the area and the situation was resolved peacefully at around 6am this morning with the assistance of Garda negotiators.

A man in his 50s was arrested and is being held at Mullingar garda station.

Gardaí say no-one was injured in the incident.
