Fianna Fáil sources have indicated that Donegal TD, and former MEP, Pat 'The Cope' Gallagher will be asked to contest the forthcoming European elections as the party's second candidate in the North-West constituency.

Senator Pascal Mooney is the only Fianna Fáil candidate confirmed for the constituency following the decision by sitting MEP Sean Ó Neachtáin not to seek re-election.

Speaking about the matter in Dublin this morning, Transport Minister Noel Dempsey said a high-profile second candidate would be announced in the next 48 hours.
