Finance Minister to meet counterpart in London

Finance Minister Michael Noonan is in London today to meet British Chancellor George Osbourne and a number of financial investors.

Minister Noonan's visit is now set to be dominated by the European fallout of Britain's use of its veto on a new treaty. This visit has been arranged for some time.

Minister Noonan will attend a Bloomberg event to meet financial investors and will call to the Chancellor at the Exchequer.

The pair were set to discuss issues of mutual concern, with the euro crisis and the Irish bailout on the agenda.

Much of the discussion now is likely to centre on Britain's refusal to participate in the recent fiscal compact agreement.

The Irish Government here has made it clear that, as our nearest trading partner, it is not in Ireland's interest for Britain to become isolated from the rest of the union.

The Taoiseach has had a phone conversation with the British Prime Minister David Cameron about events at last week's summit in Brussels.

Last night's call was their first opportunity to discuss the talks. The conversation has been described as a "positive engagement".Home
