Family calls for new inquest into priest's death

The family of a priest who died in suspicious circumstances 25 years ago today are calling for an inquiry into his death.

Fr Niall Molloy was found dead, aged 52, at a friend's house in Co Offaly on July 8, 1985.

A two-day inquest in 1986 found that Fr Molloy died as a result of head injuries but nobody has ever been convicted on charges relating to his death.

Fr Molloy was the parish priest of Castlecoote in Co Roscommon at the time of his death.

A special anniversary Mass will take place there this evening and will be celebrated by the Bishop of Elphin, Dr Christopher Jones.
