Dublin City Council considers raising clamping fee to €130
Motorists in Dublin who break city parking rules could be set for an increase in clamping fees.
Under a proposal being considered by the City Council, the fee could rise from €80 to €130.
Parking Appeals Officer William Kielty said that the fee has not changed since 1998.
He ssaid that compliant motorists are being forced to subsidise offenders, because of the increased costs of providing the service.
AA director of policy Conor Faughnan claimed that it is a money-making move.
"Let's be clear about this, there is no justification for this other than that Dublin City Council wants more money," he said.
"The purpose of clamping is to ensure that there is proper compliance and proper legal parking and in fact in that analysis it has worked really well.
"Dublin City Council makes nearly €130m per annum in legal parking fees, and that's where clamping pays you back."
