Cork crash vehicle believed to have been stolen

Gardaí investigating a fatal collision in Cork city believe that one of the vehicles involved had been stolen just a short time earlier.

The incident occurred when an Opel Astra collided with a taxi on the Ballyhooly Road in Ballyvolane after 5am this morning.

The 21-year-old front seat passenger of the Opel Astra died at the scene.

The 18-year-old driver was taken to Cork University Hospital along with the driver of the taxi, a man in his early 40s. Both are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Gardaí believe the Opel Astra was stolen from Mourne Avenue in the Glen and are appealing to anyone with information to contact Mayfield Garda Station on 021-4558510.
