BNP leader Griffin's UCC visit cancelled

A scheduled visit to University College Cork by the leader of the British National Party Nick Griffin has been cancelled.

His invitation was withdrawn over the potential threat it posed to the safety and welfare of the students and the general public.

Last September, an invite issued to Mr Griffin to speak at Trinity College in Dublin was also withdrawn for similar reasons.

Meanwhile, renowned human rights lawyer and former international cricketer Imran Khan is in Cork today as part of a campaign against facism organised by students at UCC.

Mr Khan will be discussing the case of Stephen Lawrence, a black teenager murdered by racist thugs in London in 1993.
